Great Britain is one of the few countries, where the monarchy has been preserved throughout many centuries. As a rule, the throne was passed to the eldest male descendant in the royal family and sometimes to other legal successors. And there were only several cases, when the continuity was broken. These occasions were usually linked to some complex problems in the state, such as the Bourgeois Revolution in the mid-17th century. And those were the times, when the monarch’s power was real, not nominal.
The United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland is situated on the British Isles.England, Wales and Scotland occupy the territory of Great Britain and Northern Ireland is situated in the northern part of Ireland.There are three main political parties in Great Britain: the Labour party, the Conservative party and the Liberal party.
About one million people are employed in banking, insurance and other financial and business services. The heart of all this activity is the City of London, although there are other important centres in several large cities, especially in ports such as Liverpool and Manchester, The City, about one square mile in the middle of .the capital; contains probably the greatest concentration of financial expertise in the world..The London Stock Exchange, with its vast experience and world wide network of communications, is one of the world’s markets in securities.
In every modern country, regardless of the form of the government, the press, radio and television are political weapons of tremendous power, and few things are so indicative of the nature of a government as the way in which that power is exercised. While studying the politics of any country, it is important not only to understand the nature of the social, economic, political or any other divisions of the population but also to discover what organs of public and political opinion are available for the expression of the various interests.
They say that English people keep to their traditions even in meals. Porridge is the dish Englishmen are very fond of. Many of them eat porridge with milk and sugar for breakfast. As for the Scots, for example, they never put sugar in their porridge, they always put salt in it. By the way, breakfast time in England is between seven and nine. Then, between 12 and 2 there comes lunch time. In some English houses lunch is the biggest meal of the day — they have meat or fish, vegetables, fruit or pudding. In the afternoon, at tea-time the English like to have a cup of tea with milk. Some Englishmen have their dinner late in the evening. For dinner they have soup, fish or meat, vegetables, pudding or fruit. For supper they usually have a glass of milk and a cake or a cup of tea and a sandwich.
But anyway our task today is reveal national patterns of education in Great Britain and the USA.
There arc five national BBC radio stations: the BBC regional radio services for Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland and BBC local radio stations in England, and independent local radio services provided by stations throughout Britain.
An old wives’ tale says that bread baked on Christmas Eve will never go mouldy. The Christmas turkey was imported to France by the Jesuits and it is still known in some French dialects as a ‘Jesuite’.
Since ancient times the nature has served people, being the source of their life. In Britain traditions play a more important role in the life of people than in other countries.
London is the capital of Great Britain, its political, economic and commercial center.is one of the biggest and busiest ports of Great Britain. There are some ancient buildings
