Good morning ladies and gentlemen. Today we would like to talk with you about functions of political parties. If you have any questions, please feel free to ask us at the end of the presentation. Let’s start.

First of all, we would like to show you the plan of our presentation. We are going to divide our report into 5 parts. Ar the beginning we will give 1) Definition of political party,2) then we will talk about main functions of p.p., and about external and internal functions.

I will begin with a definition of political party. It is a group of people that is organized for the purpose of winning government power. We need p.p. to organize elections and to form governments

Now we will look at the main functions of p.p. First function is Inform Citizens. This means let citizens know about public issues and the way government works via speeches, pamphlets, and advertisements

Let’s move on to the 2 function. It is Carry the message of the people to government. • parties listen to the ideas of the people • elected party members try to get these ideas onto the policy agenda

Now I want to describe 3 function- Operate the government. IT is when elected, party members work in government • elected officials appoint party members to high offices

Now we come to the 4 function. Act as a watchdog/ each political party is quick to point out the failures of the other • keeps each party “on point” Job is to monitor the opposing party in power relationship between major parties ensures that the party out of power “will keep a close eye on its opponent and notify the public of any wrongdoing or policy misstep!”

And the 5 function is Link different branches and levels of government • political parties get members elected to all levels of government • with party member at all levels of government, they are all linked and know the needs/desires of the people at each level

Last function is Select and support candidates • at conventions and through primaries, the party members select who will represent then in the upcoming election • parties raise money for the campaign and do the campaigning • helps inform voters on how candidates fell about about the issues

Functions of political parties are divided on internal and external. Internal features relate to the recruitment of new members, funding of parties, establishment of effective cooperation between management and local offices, etc.

External functions are crucial for the party activities. Relate to the development ideology, the formation of public opinion, the dissemination of political culture; the organization of electoral campaigns and participation in them; the struggle for state power and participation in political governance. creating opportunities for political socialization of the individual; training in political institutions, participation in formation of political elite

IN conclusion I would like to tell that Political parties perform an important task in government. They bring people together to achieve control of the government, develop policies favorable to their interests or the groups that support them, and organize and persuade voters to elect their candidates to office. Although very much involved in the operation of government at all levels, political parties are not the government itself, and the Constitution makes no mention of them.
